Build Your Budget in Smaller Steps
Break a big job into parts. Price one part at a time, save each one, and see your quote add them up in one place.
- Pick a type of work and answer a few questions.
- See your price and add it to your quote.
- Repeat for every other part of the job, and select Delete from quote on any page to take its estimate out.
- Email your quote to yourself from any estimate page.

You can change a saved part at any time. Your contractor finds the work your saved parts repeat, such as setup, demolition, and disposal, so your final quote prices each item once.

From Estimate to Final Quote
Your price gets more certain at each step. Your estimate and quote are budgets you plan with. Your final quote is the written offer you sign.
- Estimate. Answer a few questions about one part of your project, and see its price at the prices dated on its page.
- Quote. Save each estimate, and your quote adds them up, with each item on its own line and each price variance under the total. We send it by email or text.
- Home visit. Your contractor measures, checks the site, and reviews your saved estimates with you.
- Updated quote. When your work needs a permit, your contractor emails a price for what the visit finds, with a note on what the City's permit review can still change, and applies for the permit.
- Final quote. Your contractor emails a written offer with your confirmed scope and price, each item on its own line, and no price variances. It lists a price range for the few hidden finds most likely in your project, such as mould inside a wall, and the date its price holds until. It follows the home visit, or the permit when your work needs one.
Your final quote is the price you sign, and it changes only through a written change order. When the work uncovers a hidden problem or you ask for a change, your contractor sends a change order with its price and any added days. That work starts once you sign it.
Every Contractor Meets Our Standards
True Frame Builders prices your project online and books your home visit. The True Frame Builders contractor who serves your area visits your home, writes your final quote, signs your contract, and does the work. Your quote names that contractor, which is responsible for the work and its warranty. Every contractor proves these standards before joining.
- Licence and insurance. Your contractor holds every licence your city requires, carries at least $2M in liability insurance, and has WSIB coverage for every worker on your site.
- Years of experience. Your contractor has worked on Toronto-area homes for at least 5 years.
- Permits. Your contractor prepares and submits every permit application your project needs, and your estimate includes that work. City permit fees and the drawings from your designer or architect are separate from your estimate.
- A set payment schedule. You pay a deposit when you sign your contract, then the rest as set steps of the work are done. Your final quote's total sets your payment schedule.
- Written approval for every change. Your contractor charges for a change only after you approve it in writing, before the work starts.
- A warranty on every project. Your contractor fixes any defect in its workmanship for at least 2 years after your renovation, addition, suite, or garage is complete. A custom home gets a Tarion new home warranty, with coverage up to 7 years.
- A reply within 1 business day. We answer every call and message within 1 business day.
Common Questions
How much does a general contractor cost in Toronto?
Your price depends on the type of work and its size. Pick your project and answer a few questions to see a Toronto price at October 2026 prices for your own job. The typical cost table shows the usual range for each type of project.
Do your prices include HST?
No. Every price range on this site, and every estimate you build, is in Canadian dollars before HST.
Do I have to plan my whole project now?
Start with one room or one addition. Save it, and add more parts when you are ready.
Do you handle building permits?
Yes. Your contractor checks which permits your project needs, then prepares and submits each permit application. City permit fees and any drawings or engineering are separate unless your estimate says otherwise. You pay the City's fees at its rates with no markup, and your designer or architect prepares the drawings.
